No typical day is the same, I lead on the D&I strategy across our UK&I business, so I spend a significant amount of time working closely with our leaders to imbed our D&I strategy in a meaningful way that is going to positively impact the experience of our people. I also get the opportunity to facilitate workshops on inclusive intelligence, cultural agility and belonging, this is a great way to stay connected with what our people are thinking and feeling so we can better support as a central D&I Team. Data analytics is an important part of my role as we track our progress against plan, leveraged smartly data can tell a compelling story to support conversation with key stakeholders. I also get to work with external organisations like NP Women, which is a fantastic way to network, share best practice and connect with our clients and our communities.
I am a self-confessed learning addict! I am a firm believer that you can navigate your career and change course at any time. I joined EY in 2006 as a Finance Administrator, working my way up through Finance before beginning my career in Talent with our Global D&I Team in 2016. All of the experience I gained led me to the role I have now as UK&I D&I Lead and I have just started to Lecture on HR Management at The University of Salford a few hours a week. So who knows what is next!
I don’t have one particular role model. There have been many times through my life where I have been truly inspired by women around me who have achieved incredible things, including my best friends, family and mentors. Often it is the people who are doing amazing things quietly in the background, these are the people that inspire me – they are the quiet heroes!
Focus on your own journey and always support others as you progress, seek out good mentors and sponsors and pass it on!
