In 2015, Sandy was honoured in the Queen’s birthday list for services to business and young people and the same year also saw her named North West Director of the Year (SME) and Highly Commended in the same award, nationally, by the Institute of Directors.
Sandy launched Tangerine in 2002, which is now one of the UK’s leading integrated communications consultancies. The first PR company outside London to be named Outstanding PR Consultancy of the Year in the CIPR’s national Excellence awards, Tangerine employs 60+ people and supports market leading brands including Pizza Hut, M&S Bank, Jewson and Ideal Standard.
In 2017, when Tangerine turned 15, fulfilling a promise she made when she launched the business, Sandy announced Tangerine had become an Employee Owned Partnership with 64% of its shares now owned by its Partners (Tangerine employees).
Sandy is passionate about creating quality career opportunities for young people and has launched and grown myriad job creation programmes over the last decade. Her latest – The award-winning Juice Academy social media / digital marketing apprenticeship – has created more than 250 roles in leading businesses across the North West.
She chairs skills groups for the NW IoD and the North West Business Leadership Team, is Vice-Chair of Forever Manchester and Non-exec Director of Northcoders.
It’s a thorough positive movement, which positively promotes diversity in all of its guises (despite its name) and brings people together to the betterment of all.
This time last year we put our business into Employee Ownership, fulfilling a promise we’d made when we launched 16 years ago – the idea being that by ‘handing’ it to the people who’ve helped us thrive, we can ensure our values live into the future as the business continues to grow.
You can’t BE something if you can’t SEE it so it’s vital that people from all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities etc put themselves forward as role models, to say to the next generation: if I can, you can too!
