2020 has also been the year of awards and panels. In May, our founder Simone Roche MBE was invited to speak at the Leadership Premiere League Charitable Trust Webinar Series, and in the same month we also had Jodie Hill in the first NPW leaders webinar. In July, the NPW team took part in the Female Quotient Global Virtual Dinner, and in September we hosted the Inclusion Week webinar with our partner United Utilities, discussing what truly makes a diverse and inclusive work-place.
Northern Power Women also marked International Women’s Day back in March, as Simone hosted an event on behalf of a women’s organisation, before featuring as a guest of honour at a Liverpool FC event to celebrate female role models.
It’s also been a particularly busy year for our founder Simone Roche MBE, who some might begin to think doesn’t actually sleep or eat. In February she was invited aboard the HMS Prince of Wales as it visited Liverpool. Later in March, Roche also visited the HMS Queen Elizabeth in Portsmouth, before being a guest in the royal box with the First Sealord at the Mountbatten Festival, held at the Royal Albert Hall. In September, Simone was listed on the Heroes List for the third year running, as well as being invited to speak at the She Has No Limits virtual conference. In October, she also featured on a Women In Business Expo Panel, and in November took part in a virtual signing ceremony of the Armed Force Covenant attended by senior representatives of the Royal Navy, Army and RAF. And in June, she was appointed as Honorary Lieutenant Commander by HM Queen Elizabeth II to advocate for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
In October we hosted a Social Mobility Pledge event with the Rt Hon Justine Greening in attendance, in partnership with United Utilities. In December, Simone enjoyed talking with Cumbria Inspiring Leaders all about great leadership in Cumbria. We also hosted a panel at the Transport for North Conference, before attending a diversity roundtable with the mayor for Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. Roche also judged the Women in Innovation Awards for Innovate UK, and the Northern Asian Power List in August.
Amidst attending this diverse range of award ceremonies and panels, we have still managed to organise our own awards, with the shortlists for our future and power lists being announced in January, with planning continuing throughout the year.
