I chose to do an apprenticeship with HSBC UK, following graduating from university, because I felt their scheme offered a chance for me to immerse myself in the world of work; gaining tangible experience in role, whilst also supplementing my knowledge with professional qualifications. My family have all had very successful careers in the financial sector and I knew HSBC UK was a leading company in this sector.
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of my apprenticeship, as mentioned above, is that this apprenticeship scheme allows me to develop myself by offering a blend of on the job experience with a range of professional qualifications that, combined, I feel, will aid me in progressing in my career with HSBC UK. We also receive one-to-one coaching with a dedicated talent coach and mentoring from line managers who are well versed in the business sector(s) they manage. I have been on the scheme now for just over 12 months.
My mum: no words could do justice.
If I have the chance to pass on one thing that I have learnt it would be to not be afraid to ask questions. To echo the words of HSBC and our senior management “we are not an island”.
