Care and Community

NPW 2020 Rewind

Care and Community

Paying it back to communities has always been a central to NPW, and throughout the year we have been finding new ways to support the communities around us. In January, Simone was a guest at the Liverpool FC Unity collective event with Dame Kelly Holmes, before being invited to be a Liverpool FC community champion in February. In the same month, Simone was invited to speak at MIPIM in Cannes, the largest property conference in the world, and our championing of accessible and safe property was continued as we hosted an event for CBRE in Leeds.

The Northern Power Women duty of care extends far beyond the professional sphere, and throughout the year we have been working to ensure that every Northern Power Woman feels supported in every area of their life. Back in April, during our first lockdown, we started our Winning Wednesday Drop-In events, checking in with our community during a strenuous time for all. In July, Barre Balance Founder Natalie Butler took over the NPW Instagram for a special Barre session, and in November we were joined by Sharon MacArthur, founder of Miss Menopause, in our NPW podcast life lessons, as she opened up the discussion on the menopause. Despite the mayhem of the corona-coaster, we have also found the time to celebrate our NPW community, celebrating our 150 strong Power Circles and all the fantastic work they have achieved with us this year. The celebrations continued into December as we hosted our #NPWCheers Live Twitter chat and celebrated everyone’s cheer for the year, as well as sharing our 2020 NPW playlist on Spotify.

There have been many points during this year when it felt like we would never reach this final page on our calendars, and never wave goodbye to 2020, stuck in a groundhog-day-like loop of tiers, social distancing, and Netflix binging. While we are all aware that the clock striking midnight on December 31st will not magically cure the world of all coronavirus cases and restore normality everywhere, it will mark the close of what has been a painful chapter for us all. As we start this brand new chapter titled “2021”, we at Northern Power Women are thrilled to be marching forward with our community of northern powerhouses. To 2020, we say, “good riddance”, but to 2021, we say “bring it on”.
