Despite the mayhem of 2020, NPW have still been successful in expanding and growing as an organisation. On the 12th of March, we celebrated our 5th birthday, and marked this birthday month by starting plans for our Power Platform, aimed at enabling people to connect, collaborate, empower and inspire. The Power Platform continued to grow throughout April, as we held our first steering board meeting.
2020 has also been the year of new partnerships, despite social distancing. This year we are proud to have launched our relationships with Future First and BNY Mellon, with whom we hosted a Human Approach to leadership event in November, celebrating the diverse leadership styles that have emerged out of 2020.
One of our highlights of the year was undoubtedly our Levelling Up by Powering on Report, a collection of our ideas and strategies for moving forward out of the pandemic and into a more equal society. This report wouldn’t have been possible without contribution from our Power Circles, which started back in May, when we held 6 circles in just 6 days. In September, we officially launched the report, endorsed by Andy Burnham and Dame Julie Kenny MBE. But we didn’t stop there as we dove straight into our campaign encouraging people to implement the three asks outlined in the report (Invite us to the table, Invest in us, Invest in our future talent). In November, we were successful at getting a seat at one of the most influential tables, as we were invited to Number 10 Downing Street to discuss the report, and was later explored in December, at a roundtable discussion with Secretary of State for Transport, Grant Shapps.
