Ruth is Head of Soft Power and Strategic Engagement at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, where she helps promote UK interests through an overseas network of 12,500 people in 270 Posts.

Prior to this she was the CEO of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority, the Government body that transformed safety after Hillsborough. She has also been a Deputy Director at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, working on Honours and Appointments and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic bid. She is the founder of TEDxWhitehallWomen and in 2012 was awarded the Lloyds Banking Group First Women Award for Public Service.
