At Innovate UK: Women In Innovation Conference, Simone Roche MBE interviewed Outstanding Entreprenuer 2018 and founder of Pukka Insure, Sam White. Sam shares her thoughts about opening up for the Q&A and looking back at how far you’ve come in this blog.
I had a fabulous day at Innovate UK’s Women In Innovation Conference. It was one of those rare but beautiful moments where you realise how far you have come. I’ve spoken a lot about my previous fear of public speaking, and the anxiety I suffered within my twenties. But sitting on a stage in front of an impressive group of women being interviewed by the irrepressible Simone Roche MBE, I realised just how far I’ve come.
There was no anxiety, no fear of being judged as I was as open as I’ve ever been and I felt totally safe. It’s interesting to me as people are often shocked that I have ever been anything less than totally confident but this has definitely been a hard-fought battle. I was asked in one of the after talk questions by one of the young women how you battle confidence issues and have your voice heard. The best advice I can give is just to keep putting yourself in uncomfortable positions, know that we all suffer from the same doubts, and keep going.
