BNY Mellon

As we begin the second year of our partnership with BNY Mellon it is a great time to reflect on the activity we have collaborated on. Over the last 12 months, Northern Power Futures and BNY Mellon have kept people connected in the North of England, highlighting BNY Mellon as an employer of choice, particularly amongst emerging talent.

Virtual Carousel Networking: Connecting with Future Talent

With the support of BNY Mellon, we have created virtual carousel networking sessions to connect students and those at the start of their career with our fantastic business community. On 30th of June, Northern Power Futures and BNY Mellon hosted a Virtual Carousel Networking session. During the session, participants were sorted into breakout zoom rooms where mentees were able to speak to mentors and expand their networks, build confidence, and discuss different career paths and career trajectory previously not explored. Each group was given 20 minutes of uninterrupted networking before being moved into the next zoom room with a new set of people to seek advice from. BNY Mellon colleagues enthusiastically volunteered to be part of the session to offer their advice and experience to emerging talent.

The carousel session was hugely successful, with mentor and mentee alike commenting on how worthwhile attending the session had been. Vibha Ghei, Senior Analyst at BNY Mellon was delighted to have been a part of the session, as it allowed her to broaden her network and knowledge, which, in her opinion, “can come only from talking to people who have experience, and who have seen so much in their career that they’ve got that knowledge to give to us. I’m so glad my manager encouraged me to attend this event today. This carousel event has given me a massive opportunity to network and think about the next steps in my career”.

Virtual Northern Power Women Awards 2020

BNY Mellon also sponsored the Large Organisation Awards Category at the Virtual Northern Power Women Awards which this year celebrated the achievements of Page Group.  This was the largest event celebrating gender equality in Europe, with 980 virtual attendees, and the event stream being viewed by over 1,300 times. The 2020 Awards then went on to spark 25 million impressions across social media.

Coffee & Connect and 60 minutes with BNY Mellon

One noted success from the last year was the Coffee & Connect session between 15 final year students from Liverpool John Moore’s University and BNY Mellon employees. Aimed at young people disadvantaged by the pandemic, the session allowed students to find out more about the work that BNY Mellon does and the opportunities it offers.

Following the success of this insightful session and the interest it provoked amongst students preparing to leave university and enter the world of work in the summer of 2021, Jim Caulkett and Allan Gaskin followed up with a ‘60 minutes with BNY Mellon session to another group of 35 Liverpool John Moore’s University students.

Power Circle: New Ways of Working

During a year punctuated by remote working and social distancing restrictions, we looked at one of the most hotly debated issues of the year: how do we adapt to a new working life after nearly a year of remote working? To better understand how to respond to this question, we hosted a Power Circle with BNY Mellon inviting cross sector Manchester based female leaders, to get their reflections on the last year, and their insights into how we move forward and build back an idea of normality together.

Looking forward…

Over the next 12 months we have a whole host of activity planned to create more opportunity and extend wider support to young people. Kicking off with Carousel Coffee and Connect and a Leadership Power Circle, we are excited to continue creating impact and affecting change together. BNY Mellon will also be involved with the Northern Power Women Awards 2022 from the start as the partner of the Large Organisation Award. Together, we will continue to connect young people and the business community across all sectors whilst accelerating gender equality and social mobility.

At Northern Power Futures, we are thrilled to be working in partnership with BNY Mellon, to empower the next generation, and we can’t wait to continue championing future talent over the coming year.
